  • Nice work! I also did my own version of the USBASP programmer, with voltage selection for the target between 3.3V and 5V (for both signals and VCC) I used a different approach, to keep the PCB size as small as possible. Instead of using level shifters, I made possible to select the VCC voltage for the ATMEGA on the programmer between 3.3V and 5V, so the signals will be at the same level.

    Thank you :) I was playing with the same idea, but as I was not too concerned about PCB size, kept the level converters. Your design will be more reliable though, as the zener solution on the USB lines can be tricky to get exactly right, the device does not always enumerate.. I had to play with a lot of zener values, 3.6v being the most reliable, but also the value that I can not seem to get hold of at the moment in smd LL34 :( The device works well, but definitely has potential for improvement
